A Yellowjacket’s First Day at AHS

My first day at Avondale was not what I was expecting.

The day I walked into the building I remember focusing my attention on Lucy, our school dog. Why was there a dog in the school?

Like any student, the first few days were rough; searching for my locker and classes felt like a dreadful experience. I got the hang of it after a while.

Besides seeing Lucy in the hall, I was shocked to see a room like the HUB. It’s structure, size and purpose to be a learning environment is unique. I enjoy seeing a space where we can come together and work.

In comparison to my last school, the Avondale teaching staff is very kind and supportive and the students are more friendly and welcoming. By the second week people started talking to me, asking me my name and where I was from. I felt part of the crowd and could make friends easily to have a school year worth remembering.

I am excited to start this new experience especially since Covid-19 pandemic put my learning and socializing skills on hold.

I’ve never wanted to participate in school activities until now. At Avondale High I can accomplish what I need to do while also meeting new people and being social. Overall I am thrilled to be a part of the Avondale Yellow Jackets.
