Avondale Competitive Cheer and Wrestling Teams Perform Well in County Tournaments

Yellowjacket athletic teams took victories in important games and tournaments this week.  On Thursday, varsity wrestlers took their hours of hard training and practice to Brother Rice High School in Birmingham for the district meet.  Collectively their performance was strong, and two wrestlers have qualified for the regional tournament.  Following this, on Saturday, the varsity competitive cheer team took to the mats for the Oakland County Tournament.  Their, record-breaking performance resulted in a championship title and advancement to the state tournament!  Other Avondale athletic teams held a record of four wins and seven losses collectively.  Results for the week are as follows:

Tuesday, February 8

Result: 68-26 Win

Varsity Boys Swim and Dive at Notre Dame Preparatory Academy at 6 PM

Result: Overall Team Loss

Varsity Skiing Giant Slalom at Pink Knob at 4 PM

Result: Did Not Qualify

Wednesday, February 9

Varsity Hockey vs Walled Lake Northern High School at Lakeland Arena at 8 PM

Result: 2-4 Loss

Thursday, February 10

Varsity Bowling vs Lake Orion High School at Classic Lanes at 3:30 PM

Result: Overall Team Loss

Varsity Wrestling District Tournament at Birmingham Brother Rice High School at 6 PM

Result: Two Avondale Wrestlers Qualified for Regionals

Friday, February 11

Varsity Girls Basketball vs Farmington High School at 6:30 PM

Result: 45-60 Loss

Varsity Hockey vs Farmington High School at 7 PM

Result: 4-2 Win (Winning two goals scored in final minutes of third period)

Saturday, February 12

Varsity Competitive Cheer Oakland County Tournament Starting at 7 AM

Result: Champion, 1st Place Finish

Varsity Hockey vs Anchor Bay High School at the Detroit Skaters Club at 8 PM

Result: 2-5 Loss
